‘Malamander’ is a book written by Thomas Taylor. It is one of my favourite books. The main character in this story is a boy named Herbert Lemon. The story starts when he meets a strange girl who is being chased by a man with a boathook for a hand. The girl’s name is Violet Parma. Together they discover the legend of the Malamander. The Malamander is a legendary monster who lives in the Levithan, a nearby shipwreck. It is part man, part fish, and part goodness-knows-what. The Malamander’s egg can grant you any wish as long as you defeat the monster. Boathook Man was once the captain of the Levithan. He managed to get his hands on the Malamander egg and wished to live forever. But he failed to defeat the Malamander and his own wish became his curse. He was destined to live forever, fading away each day. A local writer named Sebastian Eels teams up with Boathook Man and tries to get the egg. Herbert and Violet must try and stop them.
This book was one of the best stories I’ve ever read. I’m looking forward to reading more books by the same author.
